Viking Bar

A vender approached the Western AS Bookstore with an opportunity to produce custom-branded candy bars at a very reasonable cost. The bookstore requested that I design the wrapper to look like an official University candy bar, which they would then sell at the cash registers.

Solution

Starting with an easily recognizable chocolate bar "look," I then applied the University's colors of gray and blue. I decided to name it the "Viking Bar" to pay tribute to the University's mascot, and added in the some viking ship illustrations approaching with perspective to give the bar graphics a sense of depth. I wanted to add a coupon to the wrapper, and after approaching the apparel manager, she agreed to include a 20% OFF coupon on the back of the wrapper.

Result

The Viking Bars were wildly successful and are now a store favorite. We sold out of the first shipment within one week, and have continued stocking them ever since. They are a big hit with parents of students, students looking for fun gifts for the family, and student clubs buy them for fun club contest prizes! The coupon on the back has brought in more customers to the apparel department, which is great!
